My Travel Bucketlist

Travel Destinations

Up until I was 14, I had never been abroad. To be honest, until my parents split up I don’t think I had even been on the holiday in the UK, unless you count visiting grandparents. After that, there was a yearly Centre Parcs visit and an occasional trip to Dorset, but my first trip abroad was to France with school. We took a coach, we had teachers, but I still loved it and wanted to go travelling.

Since then, I’ve been to Malta, India, Mexico, Spain (both the nice parts, and Magaluf), Fuerteventura and Portugal. I’m not the most well travelled of people but I’m trying. This year, I’m going to Portugal again, as well as Paris, Budapest and New York, and what I would really love is to take a year out and travel at some point. I have a lot of catching up to do, after all.

Transun are doing a competition to win a trip to see the Northern Lights. I don’t normally partake in blog competitions but I’ve wanted to see the Northern Lights ever since I was a little kid, and I’ve also been meaning to write a travel bucket list for a while anyway so I figured why not. Once upon a time I was really lucky and won everything ever, so let’s hope that comes back again! If you want to take part, the competition rules are here.

Bali, Indonesia

Bucket list - Bali

Reasons why I want to visit Bali

I stumbled across a picture of Bali on Pinterest around two years ago, and I’ve wanted to go ever since. It looks unbelievably stunning, I feel like you could wander around for years without getting stressed and without running out of serene views ever. I feel like most people’s top destination would be Australia and sure, I’d love to go, but I think the whole point of travelling is to find new cultures and that’s why my first choice is somewhere which hasn’t been completely westernised. I really want to stay in a Buddhist temple, stay awake on the beach all night to watch the sunrise, go scuba diving in the coral reefs, trek in the mountains and to just learn this completely other way of life. Plus it’s like, crazy cheap to live out there!

Alaska

Bucket list - Alaska

Reasons to visit Alaska

I’ve wanted to go to Alaska for a couple of years, mainly to see the Northern Lights but also because I love the idea of being surrounded by such beautiful wilderness. I am one of the coldest people alive, I get made fun of at work for always wearing my coat, and I am also obsessed with the internet and technology so I feel like going to Alaska would be a bit of a personal challenge but I know it would be worth it. There is so much amazing wildlife out there, like bears, whales, porpoises, moose, not to mention the stark contrast between icy tundras and glaciers, vast mountains, forests and then the Northern Lights, dog sledding, and cities to explore. I don’t know why anyone wouldn’t want to go to Alaska, if I’m honest!

Italy

Reasons why I want to see Italy

Italy - favourite travel destination

Italy - travel bucket list

Italy is quite a standard holiday destination so I feel like it shouldn’t be on my top 3 but honestly, I’ve always loved the idea of Italy. I couldn’t tell you why, I think it’s the whole chilled out, sunshine and bread and olive oil filled life thing going on there that I just would love to experience. If I spoke italian (properly, not the basics I do right now after my class!) I would 100% consider moving there. The reason I don’t have a specific place in Italy I’d like to visit is because I’d like to travel the whole country. Italy has everything from beautiful white beaches, olive grove filled countrysides, historic ruins, stunning architecture and incredible art monuments. I know this, partly because of Pinterest and Google, but also because I’ve been working with a travel client at work and the amount of research and content I’ve done about Italy over the past few months is on par to the amount of work I did at uni in all of second year. Surprisingly, even after all this, I STILL want to go.

These are just my top three but there are so many places I want to go on top of this. All of the world’s cities, Russia (long story), Asia, Africa, Australia (yep, cliche), all of America… just everywhere, really. Hopefully, in a year or two I will actually go travelling around and see a few places, and then when I’m back I’m going to make it my aim to only go to new places when I go away. I don’t want to visit the same resort or whatever every year for the rest of my life when there are so many new and exciting places to visit!

Which places are on your travel bucket list?
