TV Series You NEED To Watch

I’m not really a TV watcher. I’d much rather spend time on my laptop, phone or sleep than sitting down and watching a TV. I have become some what of a pro at binge watching series though, and there are a few I’ve watched recently that are insanely good, along with a few I’ve watched in the past but rewatch frequently, and I think you should be watching them too!

Orange Is The New Black

I resisted this for ages because I didn’t see how it would be good, but oh my god it is amazing! The first few episodes are a bit waffly, but once you get into it it’s the kind of programme where you stay up until 3am on a ‘school night’ and still think it’s worth it the next day at 7am. The series follows Piper Chapman as she survives prison (or more realistically, the prisoners) after being arrested for being involves in drugs smuggling years ago. Oh, and her ex girlfriend who put her in prison is also in there with her. #awkward

Hemlock Grove

If you follow me on Twitter, you’ll know how obsessed I am with this. It’s dark and tense and messed up, and it has vampires and all that which I normally don’t bother with but this is seriously so good, there aren’t many episodes where I haven’t shot up in bed shouting “OMG WHAT IS HAPPENING!?!?!”. A girl mysteriously dies in a gruesome way, which leads to an unlikely friendship between Roman and Peter as they try to find out who did it.

The Bates Motel

Have you ever watched American Psycho with Christian Bale? Boy, what a messed up film. Bates Motel follows Norman Bates, his mum and his brother open up a motel in a new town after Norman’s dad mysteriously dies. Turns out the town they move to has just as many dark secrets as Norman and Norma. I’ve just finished the first series and can’t wait to start the second, it’s extremely tense and gripping.

House

Despite being older than my dad, Hugh Laurie is one hell of a silver fox in this. A sarcastic, mean and stubborn doctor, House is an absolute twat to everyone ever. He is also an absolute genius, and any medical case that can’t be solved gets sent his way. Each episode takes you through the clever journey of how he solves the case, and there is also a bigger storyline which gets really deep and messed up as the series go on. If you like clever storylines with sarcastic humour, you’ll love House.

The Big Bang Theory

The Big Bang Theory follows Sheldon, Leonard, Raj and Howard, four painfully geeky friends, and their next door neighbour Penny. Unlike the other four series I’ve mentioned, Big Bang is a light hearted comedy which leaves you cringing just as much as laughing. Asides from the constant laughing, there is a good story line throughout the series.

How I Met Your Mother

Now, I wasn’t sure whether to include How I Met Your Mother, as the end makes me so sad/ angry and I haven’t really accepted it yet. Horrible endings aside, every episode is bound to make you laugh and the story line keeps you guessing. It follows a group of friends daily lives, including the ups and downs. The characters are varied, slightly exaggerated but still relatable and there are some excellent recurring jokes.

Rules Of Engagement

I used to see this on E4 all the time and never bothered watching it, but a lack of options meant I had no choice but to give it a chance. Boy am I glad I did! The programme follows two couples, their sleezy friend and later on, his geeky assistant. Jeff and Audrey have been married or years and spend most of their relationship trying to ‘win’, whereas Adam and Jen are newly engaged. The characters are all super funny, but Jeff is outright hilarious. The only bad thing about Rules Of Engagement is that they didn’t film the final series.

There are other series that I dip in and out of, but these are all my favourites. I can watch Big Bang, Rules Of and How I Met Your Mother all the time, I basically know every episode off by heart! And Bates, House, Orange and Hemlock are so gripping and intense that it’s impossible to watch just one episode.
