Casino Night! (Kind Of)

The only card games I have ever played is Pontoon when I was a kid, and various drinking games, so when I was invited to the BGO Meet Up I was really excited. Time to learn some new skills, right? BGO is pretty much an online casino; it has blackjack, roulette, baccarat, bingo… The works, really! I’ve never played online casino-y games, and I’ve never been to a real life casino, so I was excited to see what the meet up had in tail.

I met up with Corinne from Skinned Cartree and Hayley from Tea Party Beauty before going in to the meeting, which was held at Leeds White Cloth Gallery. It’s a strange place, a poky little pub in the front which leads through to a nice bar, and then further through to a big room you can hire out. When we arrived, we were given some chips for drinks, and some ‘money’ to exchange for poker chips. I had a southern comfort and lemonade, as it’s the bomb, and then headed to the tables to see how the games worked.

Bgo meet up

There were three tables, two with Blackjack (which actually is Pontoon which I played as a kid!) and one with Roulette. After half an hour practising, we got to exchange our money for chips and play ‘for real’. But not really for real, obviously.

Roulette, in case you don’t know, is basically a game of luck. The ball is dropped and it spins around and lands in a number, and you put chips on what you think that number will be. You can bet on different things, like whether it will be a black or red, an odd or even, etc etc, and each has different returns so the easier the guess, the less chips you get back. I probably am not explaining it very well, but basically it’s a game of luck. I managed to luck out and was raking in loads of chips left right and centre, and I will admit I probably got quite cocky. So obviously I then lost all of my chips playing Blackjack. That’s just life I guess!

As with all Joe Blogs events, we were encouraged to take selfies for Twitter and Instagram to win cool prizes. I didn’t win anything, but someone got away with a giant inflatable ROBOTIC Minion which I’m so jealous of.

I had a really good time at the meet up, and it’s made me really want to go to a casino! I don’t think I’ll be going to Las Vegas quite yet, but I do definitely want to visit a casino. I’ll probably have to restrict the amount I take *cough* lose.

You can read more about the event here.

Have you ever been to a casino?
