I’ve wanted to try the Maybelline Colour Tattoo’s for a while, admittedly purely because everyone everywhere said they love it and there’s only so many hundreds of reviews you can read before jumping on the band wagon. Baaah. I picked this up on payday, and as far as pay day treats go, it’s a pretty inexpensive one at only £4.49 so no regrets. I picked the shade ‘metallic pomegranate’ after seeing swatches - it’s very heroin chic, in that it looked sexy and smoky and understated, dishevelled and slept in but pretty damn hot way.
Formula wise, the Colour Tattoo is a weird one. It looks like it should be a cream but it’s not, it’s more solid and gel like. It’s quite hard to work with and blend in with a brush, although using your finger gets a slightly better response which I think is due to your finger warming it up. Despite the initial toughness, it is blendable and gives a lovely colour. It’s actually a similar colour to a red bruise with a slight shimmer running through, which doesn’t sound nice, but it is. With an eye primer, this lasts all day fine but I’ve worn it without before and there’s a little creasing, so if you do get one with either wear with a primer or set with a similar coloured powder.
I don’t think the Colour Tattoo is the best eye shadow out there, but I do really like it nonetheless. It’s not as easy to blend in as powder eye shadow but it is a lot easier to just wack some on in the morning, and it looks a lot more casual too. I’ve been using it to lightly line my bottom lashes for definition without the harsh lines of black eyeliner and I really like the casual look it gives!
There’s a few more colours I want to get (pink gold and permanent taupe, FYI) that I’ll probably pick up in the next few months. Do you think you’ll try any out?
