Honestly, until recently (ish) I had no idea what contouring was. I just thought some people had been blessed with killer cheekbones I would be forever envious of. But then Pinterest and blog reading made me realise that, while I may always have chubby cheeks natural, I could probably fake an angle here or there.
I kept meaning to get the Sleek contour kit but never got around to it, and then I saw a lot of people just used a darker foundation which I found a bit more appealing – I hate using loads of powder on my face, it just makes me feel clogged up. I used to use Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse when I was younger, and found it works quite well with my skin so I absent mindedly picked one up in Caramel during a Boots 3 for 2.
The mousse is a matte formula, which as a contour is obviously good as shadows are pretty matte! I was worried this was going to look a bit orange, but I haven’t found that a problem. Probably because it was designed for brown, rather than orange, skin. It’s nice and creamy, and blends in really easily, so it’s easy for me to get a nice subtle contour going and blend it out to where my blush is. As well as being easy to apply, I’ve found this lasts as long as I need it to on a day to day basis, and it also sits perfectly on the skin without being cakey.
I only contour my cheeks, and I’m happy to use my hands for that as I have seriously unsteady hands when it comes to makeup brushes (talking obviously uneven cheekbones) so for me, this does do a good job for contouring. I also think it would make a good foundation if you’re happy to use your hands or a sponge. It’s such a small, handy pot that it would make quite a good product to take with you on the go if you want to touch up your makeup.
You can get Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse at Boots for £7.69
