Let’s all agree that there are some things that look stunning on the run way, but completely stupid in real life. Unless you happen to be a model in real life, then you can pull it off in both situations. The ‘wet-look’ hair is definitely something I’d place in the ‘not for real life’ category, so I have to admit when I was asked to try Black & White hairdressing pomade* I was really intrigued to see if I could pull it off with my, ahem, amazing cheekbones and model-esque looks. As well as the whole wet look thing going on, this wax can be used to tame down your updo and brush down flyaways. I have so many flyaways it’s unreal, up until last year I had so much baby hair it framed my face like a genuine halo! I wish I’d know about the wax then.
On first impression, this looks a little dull. I definitely think they need to repackage, as there’s no chance I’d see this in Superdrug and pick it up. The smell, however, is amazing. I don’t even know what it is but I can’t get enough of it! It looks and feels a little like Vaseline but melts slightly in your hand. For the wet look, you warm some up and run your fingers from your roots backwards. Trying this was completely different to what I expected, I thought it wold be like a wax and look really wet but while it does give a kind of wet vibe, the pomade leaves your hair with volume so you don’t literally look like you’ve stepped out of a shower. It also has less hold than I expected, so when trying out the wet look I had to use Kirby grips to keep it in place (which didn’t work anyway!). This made it quite hard to style my hair, and lack of style made it look a bit like I’d clipped very unwashed hair back. I definitely need to work on styling my hair with this, I think it might be a case of needing to wash and blow dry my hair backwards especially to wear this look.
I also tried the pomade to tame my hair whilst up and it worked really well – I used just a tiny bit and it smoothed down the pony tail part without weighing down my hair or making it look greasy, and it completely got rid of flyaways around my face without looking greasy, wet or stupid.
In the space of two uses, I’ve genuinely fallen in love a little with Black & White. It’s not something I’d use very often as I don’t put my hair up much apart from the gym, but I do think it is really handy for helping tame frizz and ponytails, and if I can perfect and rock the wet look then I’ll be really impressed, especially as I am physically incapable of curling my hair so it would be nice to have a spare hairstyle. Either way, definitely worth checking out if you have dry, frizzy hair.
