I’ve always been a fan of vitamins; I swore by them as a hangover prevention in my first year of university. Sadly I was eventually proven wrong by experiencing multiple hangovers from hell, but my fondness for vitamins has stayed all the same.
I was asked if I wanted to try out these Pharma Nord Omega 7 Sea Buckthorn Oil Capsules* ages ago (I mean truly ages, sorry about that!) and after a little Googling, I agreed. I’d never heard of Sea Buckthorn prior to this so was intrigued about what it did. According to the pack, and the web, it comes from a mountain shrub and its oil has been used in folk medicine for thousands of years. It’s super nutritious, and has 12x more vitamin c than an orange weight for weight, as well as over 190 nutrients, fibre and protein. It’s meant to be full of antioxidents, and is also a vegetarian friendly form of omega 3 (most come from fish!).
Obviously the capsules aren’t big enough to inject a huge shot of nutrients, but they are meant to help with dry mucuous zones so dry nose, dry eyes, dry lips etc as well as some many of your organs. I get the worst dry lips in spring (I told you it’s been a while!) so was keen to try it out.
You’re meant to take two capsules twice a day with a meal but I varied between 0 and 4 depending on how rushed or forgetful I was during the day. I felt like I didn’t notice a huge difference while I was taking them, but when I misplaced half of the capsules, I stopped taking them and within a few weeks I noticed my lips being visibly drier. I’ve found them again though so am back to taking them, just in time for the cold dry autumn weather which will undoubtedly attempt to make my lips horrible again.
You can get these online is at MultiVits for £18.95 for 90 capsules. They are quite pricey so if you’re just looking for a random supplement, I’d go for a simple cod liver tablet which contains omega 3. If you suffer dry eyes, nose bleeds, dry mouth or skin it could be worth you looking into it. As with all supplements, you can’t expect miracles but it is little things that add up that make a difference right?
