Even though I’m not a sports fan, I can appreciate how truly British Wimbledon is. Even the weather seems to appreciate it – it’s always sunny for most of Wimbledon, right? Which is why this weekend, the Wimbledon finale, is the perfect excuse to grab some friends and have a Wimbledon picnic.
Obviously, the a Wimbledon party should include typical British food, and that’s where M&S comes in with their new Taste of the British Isles range. I’ve got some of their delicious Fettle cheese*, which is like a mild feta, on wholemeal Melba thins, some hog roast sausage rolls* which are unbelievable, some black pudding and pork sausage rolls* which are also amazing, served with a bistro salad, and then fresh strawberries* and ultra thick cream* for a typical Wimbledon pudding. Any fellow Yorkshire dwellers can actually go and check out this range at The Great Yorkshire Show in Harrogate next week between Tuesday 14th and Thursday 16th July. The show itself aims to focus on everything Yorkshire, and the M&S stand wil be highlighting the new Taste of British Isles range using local Yorkshire ingredients – delish.
I honestly don’t think a summer party is complete without ice lollies so I made some using Life Tonics flavoured coconut water* and ice lolly molds I picked up in Debenhams. Life Tonics comes in three flavours; Coconut and Mint, Dalandan Orange, and Elderflower and Juniper. You can easily freeze them on their own but as it’s for Wimbledon, I popped in some sliced strawberries for a bit of fun. I actually don’t like plain coconut water but really enjoy the flavoured ones; my favourite out of these is definitely the Dalandan Orange but all three are seriously refreshing, and super hydrating thanks to the electrolytes in coconut water. You don’t need to worry about added sugar either as they have natural sweetener Stevia instead – less calories, meaning more to enjoy the food!
I did have a look for Wimbledon decorations and in all honesty, they’re a bit shit so if you want to go cutesy and Instagrammy, just check out Pinterest for how to make bunting – it’s so much cuter than the stuff you can buy and really cheap too!
For a final hit of Wimbledon goodness, Nakd have put up a video tutorial on their Instagram on how to make these super cute tennis ball truffles. I’ve not tried them (or been paid to say this, btw!) but I have used Nakd bars in recipes before and really loved the results so I can’t see why these truffles wouldn’t turn out fab.
Obviously no party is complete without an optional alcoholic beverage, so the choice would be Strawberry and Lime Koppaberg for me – why not stick with the strawberry them?
Will you be throwing a Wimbledon party this weekend?
