NOTD / Frosted Matte

I don’t paint my nails very often anymore. I used to paint them almost daily, because I’d pick them all day and then need a new coat in the morning. The combination of constant painting, picking and removing the last flecks played absolute havoc on my nails and I put myself on a little varnish ban to let them grow back healthy again. Obviously, being on a nail varnish ban didn’t stop my picking up this Topshop nail varnish back in July but I did limit myself to the one paint job until now.

I love matte nails, I think they look so much more sophisticated than normal nail varnish. I especially love this colour, I know pastels are getting a bit behind us but the pastel mint combined with the matte finish makes it seem almost frosty and I think it will make a good winter colour (I’m thinking Snow Queen style).

The Topshop matte nail varnish has a slightly matte finish, but I find using my Barry M matte top coat gives a more fully matte effect, as well as a frosted appearance. It’s a much thicker nail varnish than the Topshop one so I reckon (and I’m probably wrong but oh well) that it’s harder for the light to reflect off the back of my nail, making it EVEN MORE MATTE. I also find that the Barry M top coat is more forgiving of any bumps or unevenness in colour, so rather than having to go three coats and a top colour, I can go two coats and then Barry M.

I mentioned it in my Beauty Favourites post but in case you missed it, this ORLY Prime Time varnish is amazing, it definitely prolongs the life of nail varnish by around three days, which means I am a little bit more able to resist chipping all my nails off. Although, I’ll be honest, this time round I caught my nail varnish too early in the shower and ended up peeling them off the same day. Oops!

What nail varnish are you rocking this autumn?
