Giraffe / Lunch Time Eats

I was in Manchester this week with my boyfriend to get some blood tests done to see if we were suitable for Flu Camp (literally, you get given flu for two weeks in return for £3750) and we decided to pop into the Trafford Centre afterwards for some lunch. I’ve not been to the Trafford Centre in about 10 years so I was quite excited to check it out.

The Trafford Centre itself is gorgeous! It’s got pretty much every shop you need, including a Disney store which I had a long look around. We didn’t do too much shopping as we were both really poor, but we are going to go back again after payday!

The Great Hall is the Trafford Centre’s answer to a food court, and is set out like a luxury cruise ship. It’s seriously cool! It has loads of great options for food as well, from La Tasca to TGI Fridays, Gourmet Burger and more. We went for Giraffe, as their food is nice and you get 25% student discount which is huge!

Giraffe Grilled Chicken Club

The restaurant was decorated very nicely- the bar was varnished wood and the walls had cute, quirky sayings and drawings. It was very clean, the staff were friendly and it had a nice chilled out atmosphere.

I didn’t want to get anything too unhealthy so I went for the Grilled Chicken Club sandwich- grilled herby chicken, slices of avocado, carrot, beetroot, mixed leaves and a salsa verde mayo on a grainy sub. It came with chips, and me and the boyfriend shared some onion rings. He got the BBQ Ribs and Chicken Combo as he is a little greedy munchkin.

My sandwich was beautiful- the chicken was garliccy, the avocado was ripe and gorgeous and I really enjoyed the beetroot- I haven’t had it since my 10 year old self decided it was not too my taste! The whole sandwich was really nice, filling and felt quite healthy. The chips were beautifully crunchy, as were the onion rings. I wasn’t too keen on the barbeque sauce that came with the onion rings, it was a bit too tangy for my liking but the peri sauce that came with the boyfriends chicken was amazing- limey and spicy and lovely.

Giraffe add a 10% service charge to the receipt usually, but because I knew about it we requested to have it taken off when we got the bill. I always think it’s a bit of a grey area- do service charges actually go to the staff? We still tipped 10% (boyfriend paid, I tipped) but in cash, and the waitress was really grateful so everyone was happy.

Have you been to Giraffe before? What was your experiences?
