Interior Design Blogs You Need To Follow

I am not exaggerating when I say most of my friends now own their own home. Whilst I personally don’t feel like I am emotionally ready to have a mortgage or go through the job hunting process, I can’t help but be envious. For the past three and a half years, I have lived in student housing. It’s been three years of dingy kitchens, awful paint jobs and horrendous carpets. I just want a nice house, which I don’t think is helped by the fact that I write a lot of interior based content for a client at work.

I move out of my current flat in July, and I have a list of requirements that my new flat or house has to have. Laminate flooring, neutral carpets, cream walls, big windows… That kind of thing. Scott can paint, so I can give or take the walls if I need to. The problem with renting is it’s not so easy to do up the space, but that hasn’t stopped me becoming borderline obsessed with pretty interior design and DIY interior blogs. I must send Scott a hundred emails a day like OMG LET’S DO THIS WHEN WE HAVE OUR OWN HOUSE. I’ve started a Pinterest board purely for DIY home decor I can get on board with when I finally move and have space, and I’m making a laptop scrapbook of homes I love the look off.

The only problem is that I want a really clean, minimalist house with a few vibrant accessories, but I am basically a bit of a hoarder when it comes to random rubbish around the house. I’d also quite like a shabby chic, rustic style home and a modern house, so I’d need three houses realistically. I’m waiting for my lottery win but until then, these are the blogs I stalk when I need an interior design fix.

I loved A Beautiful Mess the minute I saw it. Every room Elsie and Emma do up is so beautiful, elegant and fresh, and they post so many cute DIY ideas for accessories, like hanging clear planters and hand shaped clay bowls. They even have mouth-watering recipes that would look in place in a restaurant. I basically want to have their life, if I am honest. I bought my sister their book for Christmas, as she has bought her first house, and I will be buying it for myself when I eventually buy my own house.

Young House Love

Young House Love is a blog I’ve discovered quite recently, and I’m glad I did. Run by Sherry and John, they’ve done up four houses so far and they all look gorgeous. Their current house is all whites, blues and greys with wood and coloured accessories and i just love it. They have loads of handy tips on how to do up your home, from painting to grouting, to making wall art.

Yet more whites, greys and woods. I’m obsessed, okay? Melissa’s blog is handily divided into useful sections like “how to decorate” and “how to organise”, which I think is actually a really good idea. As well as her own home, she puts together themed posts which features other blogs and inspirational houses so there is plenty of visuals that are bound to inspire everyone.

Fox Hollow Cottage

Fox Hollow Cottage is another interior design/ crafty blog, so there’s a lot of home DIY and cute crafts. I’ve only recently come across Shannon’s blog so I need to spend more time on it (probably pinning all her DIYs).

Blooming Homestead

Not technically an interior design blog, but full of DIY and crafts for the home, as well as recipes which look amazing, so worth checking out!

There are actually loads of interior design blogs I love, but these are all ones I think are worth checking out even if you’re not obsessed with interiors like I am. I really wish I’d decided on this obsession when I was younger and had gone to work in it, I can’t think of anything better than spending my days surrounded by beautiful home decor.

Where are you with interior design, love it or really not bothered? Minimalist or shabby chic? Let me know! And let me know if you or any blogs you love have got their own interior section you think I need to check out, it’s my current favourite way to pass time!
