Can I please have a round of applause for my really cool, catchy title? 10 points for creativity amiright. Sometimes I try and be clever with them, today I was like naaah let’s just say it how it is. For those who hadn’t figured it out, I’m reviewing the new(ish?) Maybelline Lash Sensational mascara which is highly coveted after as a supposed dupe of Benefit’s Roller Lash Mascara. I’ve been squeezing the last of my Urban Decay Perversion Mascara (review here) absolutely dry, and I finally had to admit it was finished with. It’s such a good mascara, and definitely one I’ll be treating myself too after the post-Christmas bank balance sitch, but with this being a purse friendly £7.99 and one I’ve wanted to try for a while, it seemed the better option for now.
I am more of a volume fan when it comes to mascara; I have naturally quite long lashes (with a little help from nightly lashings of coconut oil) but they can come across a bit feeble in terms of thickness. I’ve been disappointed by many mascaras which claim to voluminise but actually do jack sh*t. They go in my bottom eyelash mascara pile, while the endless search of a budget mascara that provides thick doe eyed lashes continues.
The Lash Sensational mascara has a plastic wand with rows and rows of tiny hooks, to help grab lashes and coat them. The formula is apparently a low wax count (nope, I don’t get it either) which makes the “blackest of black lashes”… I think they just mean its less watery but really, it’s all beauty jargon in one way or another isn’t it. The tube itself is a pretty dusty rose pink. I tend to find Maybelline mascaras can look a bit tacky, but that’s totally not the case with this one. I would like multiple items in this colour!
Obviously, the important thing is does it work? And the answer is yes, yes it does. Really well. It’s my new favourite budget mascara, and comes at a close second the UD Perversion. The lashes given really are thick and jet black, although you have to do a little manipulating of the wand on the second or third layer to avoid clumps. However, a little wiggle as you apply and it’s voilà, complete Bambi lashes. At £8, it’s a mid priced budget mascara and in my opinion, 100% worth every penny. I can’t say if it’s a dupe for Benefit Roller Lash as I’ve not tried it, but it’s pretty damn good in its own right so even if it’s not, you should buy it.
Have you tried this? What are your thoughts?
