I went to Paris for my birthday weekend in June and I wanted to look great for it so I decided to get eyelash extensions. I know hundreds of people who have had eyelash extensions and they always look great and don’t have any issues, so I had high hopes for it. Obviously, as is the way of the world, mine didn’t turn out so great. And by that, I mean clumps of glue so thick that I looked like my eyelashes had been dipped in tar. My bottom eyelashes were stuck at the corner to my top eyelashes and I had to rip them out, leaving me with eyelashes poking in my eye as I couldn’t tweeze these spare lashes out.
After two hours of frantically washing, oiling and rubbing my lashes, I had to give up as for every one fake lash I got out, about four of my lashes came out with it. Obviously I spent the whole night crying and woke up looking like an actual frog, with shit lashes. Worst day ever. Thankfully I booked in an appointment to get the rest of the gunk and lashes removed but the whole experience left me with threadbare lashes and a bald patch on my lower eye.
I decided to buy an eyelash serum to help grow back my lashes and as I could get Rapidlash on Amazon Prime and have ti delivered the next day, it seemed like a good shout. At £24, it’s not the cheapest serum ever but the reviews are always positive and I was in a bit of an eyelash crisis so didn’t care. According to the website, Rapidlash contains:
Polypeptides, comprised of beneficial amino acids, help protect against breakage
Biotin (Pro-vitamin B7 / Vitamin H), an essential factor in maintaining healthier-looking, youthful lashes and brows Panthenol (Vitamin B5) helps coat the lashes and brows and seal in moisture and nourishment for improved overall appearance
Amino Acids help boost the protein structure, resulting in healthier-looking appearance of lashes and brows
Soybean Oil, rich in vitamins, helps impart sheen and luster to lashes and brows making them appear lush and beautiful
Pumpkin Seed Extract, high in vitamins and minerals, helps balance and enhance the appearance of lashes and brows
The applicator is similar to a liquid eyeliner brush, and to use you simply apply to your lash line every evening. Your skin has to be clean of makeup and creams so it’s best to use it before moisturising; my routine goes cleanse, tones, Rapidlash, serum, moisturiser. I actually use it twice a day (bald lashes yo) and sometimes on my brows when they’re a bit sparse.
It’s been over a month since I’ve been using it which is the amount of time that they say you’ll see a difference, and in all honesty I can’t see that much of a difference. My lashes themselves are already long though, so really the only thing I wanted was my poor plucked lashes to grow back. It’s probably quite unrealistic to expect a serum to help with that I guess. My lashes do look in good condition apart from the obvious thinning, so as a conditioner Rapidlash works fine. I think it would be a good purchase for if you’ve been picking your mascara off your lashes and have tipped the ends off as a result, but if you’ve gone out and had your eyelashes plucked in a terrible extension accident it’s not for you.
I’m waiting for my sister to give me my birthday present (a whole month and a bit late, gosh) as it’s coconut oil and I’ve had good results in the past from them growing out my overplucked eyebrows so hopefully, the combination of coconut oil and Rapidlash will mean I’m not left with bare lashes. It’s awkward because it’s only really my right eye; when I had fake eyelashes on for a night out, it made no difference to my left eye but really filled my right eye out again and reminded me how I probably didn’t even need extensions in the first place. Oops. I’m going to try out one of those fibre mascaras and see if that helps to restore my look on a day to day basis but I guess it is just a waiting game now until whenever they grow back, if they do!
Have you got any miracle products you think I should try out for my sparse lashes? Have you ever been in a similar situation? Or is it just me…
