For ages, I avoided Topshop makeup like the plague. Or not really like the plague but you know. It costs more than the average drug store product, and I couldn’t see why it would be worth the price. I got given their Gloss Ink in ‘Smitten’ as a present and I’m so glad I did as I love it!
First off, pink is not a lip colour I would normally wear. But then again no lip colour is really, I’m scared of bright lip colours if I’m honest. I am also incredibly suspicious of anything remotely lipgloss like; I remember being like 11 and them being the stickiest, worst things ever to exist. And they didn’t really improve much for the next few years so I steered clear.
According to Topshop, “the Gloss Ink provides the high shine finish of a gloss combined with the long lasting colour of a stain. The lightweight texture means it can be worn alone or layered over other colours for a glossy, intense colour finish; or blotted for a matte, stain look”
Smitten is a blue toned, bright pink colour and the formula is incredibly pigmented; you only need one layer to have stand out lips. It is completely non sticky, which I was so happy about. Having sticky lips is such a disgusting feeling! Especially if you’re due to eat. Anyway, aside from the great (and non sticky) consistency, the wear time is around four hours, although I think it would be more if you blotted it down so it had more of a matte finish. It glides over dry patches and when it wears off, the edges are the first to go. It has a vanilla-y smell, which is nice. Overall, it’s managed to singlehandedly change my opinion of lip glosses so bravo Topshop!
This shade isn’t actually available anymore, but seeing as the formula itself is so good I’d recommend trying out another shade from the range. I’ll definitely be trying more of the Topshop beauty range, I’ve got my eye on their glow highlighter and I’d like to try more of their lip products, as I want to be a bit braver with my makeup choices. I have actually tried one of their nail varnishes too! Read about it here
