Fitness Friday #7

I’m back! I missed last week’s Fitness Friday because I had to stay behind at work for a few hours on Thursday and didn’t have time to finish and edit my post. Being an adult sucks! I was going to talk about how to shake up your treadmill workout, but I need to do a bit more research so it’s a factual based opinion post – I want to get all the jargonology right if you get me! So instead, today’s post is an update on how I’m getting on with my fitness goals. It’s been two months since I made my New Year’s Resolutions (although where the fudge has that two months actually gone, I do not know!) so I figured now is as good a time as any to evaluate my progress!

Running

As y’all know, I’m training for a half marathon which is actually in three weeks (gulp). I’ve had running injuries, zero energy days, times where I’ve been too busy to run but despite all that, I’m proud to say I ran 10 miles earlier this week! It’s definitely been tiring running so much but I’m glad I’ve stuck it out and I will be so proud when I make the 13.1 miles on the 15th March. I’m not going to win any trophies for speed but I think I will give myself a mental trophy for commitment. Once the marathon is over, I’m going to cut back on the endless cardio and try my hand at Kayla Itsine’s Bikini Body Guide. I’ve wanted to do it for ages, and I keep seeing toned girls at my gym with her workout so I’m hoping it’ll help me to tone up and get some serious abs on! Obviously I’ll keep you all updated when I do start, but in the mean time you can keep up with my fitness .

Eating

I’ve been consciously trying to eat healthy and lose weight for a while (basically most of my life… but seriously since November when I stopped eating meat) and I’m happy to announce that it has been paying off and since January I’ve lost 5lbs! Whilst not technically loads, I was never big in the first place so I’d much rather the weight came off slowly and sensibly. I’ve been enjoying cooking up new vegetarian meals, and my snacks consist of small amounts of protein or fat with fruit and vegetables. My friend and I gave up unhealthy foods for lent (chocolate, crisps, white bread and so on) so I’ve been eating especially good the past few weeks (even choosing a salad when hungover!) and I do feel a lot healthier so I’m confident I’ll stick to limiting processed foods as much as possible. As well as eating healthily, I’ve been following the 5:2 diet most weeks (sometimes it’s a 6:1) and I definitely think that’s behind my weight loss. I will ‘review’ my experience of it when I’ve lost a bit more weight!

Confidence

Losing weight and reaching new running goals has definitely meant I’ve seen an increase in confidence this year. I still live in skinny jeans and baggy tops as that’s just my go to style, but I wore a playsuit last week on a night out which I’ve not felt confident enough to in basically a year! I’ve accepted that I’ll always have a little extra waist due to my apple shaped body, but I’m happy working towards getting as lean and fit as possible for me – that means no more comparing myself to girls who’s body’s I can’t attain. Obviously I still have days where I’m like, gross but overall I’m definitely more comfortable in my own skin.

Not to blow my own horn but I do think I’m doing pretty well fitness and health wise for 2015 so far. I’m definitely going at a slow and steady pace but everyone knows the turtle wins the race right?

Going forward, I have decided to make some more goals for the next two months so I don’t get off track with nothing to aim for!

1. Finish the half marathon in under three hours (I’d love to say two and a half but I’m a realistic kinda person)

2. Lose the final few lbs so I can start seeing some abs in time for my holiday!

3. Complete the first four weeks of Kayla Itsine’s Bikini Body Guide, without giving up

Nothing major but plenty to do! How are you getting on with your fitness goals?
