Hello and Happy Friday all! I’ve decided, on a whim, to start a Fitness Friday series. I’m training for a marathon, trying to lose weight, and have recently turned vegetarian so it seems to me that fitness and health are slowly taking over so I thought why not document it?
Fitness Friday will be a mesh of healthy recipes, marathon training updates, reviews, thoughts and whatever takes my fancy that is to do with being healthy. I don’t know if it will be weekly, bi-monthly, or what yet, hopefully I’ll keep up with it weekly but if I don’t have something interesting to post about, I ain’t gonna force it!
For my first Fitness Friday, I thought I would go over my January goals fitness and health wise, and how I am planning on achieving these. Some very EXCITING things to look out for are the best sports bra for big boobs, what training for a half marathon is actually like, and some healthy vegetarian recipes. Although not the vegetarian stew I made last weekend, that was a disaster.
Run 8 miles, outside
This is part of my training plan for the half marathon, so I kind of need to achieve it, but I also want to. When I was younger I used to love running, but university got in the way and I’ve not actually run in years before starting training, apart from the odd 15 minutes here or there. Luckily I managed to get right back into the swing of things, as the marathon training plan is for people who run three times a week or so! The furthest I’ve run, whilst writing this, is 8km (or 5 miles) but it was indoors which is easier. I need to start running outdoors more as it gets lighter, at the moment it’s only my weekend run I’m doing.
Eat more healthy fats
I’m guilty of buying low fat foods even though I know they’re stuffed with sugar, so I’ve decided to up my healthy fats (hellooo, avocado and coconut oil) and cut down on sugars and carbs. It’s funny because I KNOW how bad low fat foods are for weight loss (high sugar = high insulin = hungry hormone) but whenever I come to choosing food and there’s a low fat option, I automatically go for it. No more!
Fit in weight training
I love resistance training, but marathon training is so time consuming! Four runs a week leaves me shattered, and eats into blog time if I’m honest, so it’s been hard to motivate myself to do more but I do need to! I’ve got to the point in my training plan where I can switch running for cross training, so I think I’ll be doing a full body resistance workout and 15 minute HIIT running session on that day, and try and include 10 minutes of resistance training after a run.
I think my January goals are reasonable, hopefully I’ll achieve them all! I’m also hoping to lose 2 or 3lbs but I don’t want that to be a proper goal as I don’t want to get fixed on weight loss this year. Non fitness wise, my goals are to read two new books, which doesn’t seem like a lot but I never read anymore, get my hair cut (one of my New Year’s Resolutions, I’ve got an appointment booked next week eep!) and go to some where I haven’t been before.
I actually have a healthy where I update with my food and exercise and so on so if you like that kinda thing, check me out!
What are your January goals?
