La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo + / A Not So Happy Bunny

La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo + is one of the most raved about skin saviours out there. I couldn’t tell you how many people’s skin it has helped out, both with spots and with pigment and scars. I’ve suffered from cystic acne three times throughout my life, so my cheeks are a mess of purple dots and red pigment, little permanent reminders. I can’t tell you how fast I ordered the Effaclar Duo + after reading like, my tenth amazing review.

At £15, it’s not particularly cheap, but not expensive either. I got it in Escentual’s 30% off across all French Pharmacy products, so it worked out around £10, but it’s always in Boots 3 for 2 as well. It says on the box they do a money back offer if you’re not happy with the results, but I was so confident after being unable to find a single negative review, I didn’t bother keeping it.

You use this either as a moisturiser, or after moisturising two times a day. It has moisturising properties so if you have oily skin, you could easily get away with just the Effaclar. It has a sort of silky, primer feel and doesn’t interfere with your makeup, meaning it is easy to use the two times a day.

It claims to unclog your pores, prevent/ get rid of new spots, and target those little red marks that spots leave behind. After the first week, I hadn’t notice any results, but I carried on as I know it takes time for products to work. However, I’m now a month in and haven’t seen any improvement in my scars. Like, I would say less than 10% improvement and that is bearing in mind I use face masks and scrubs that aim to refine the skins textures. I also found that, when I did get a couple of spots, it didn’t really have an effect on how quickly the spot went down, and they still left red marks despite using it.

I’m really, really disappointed with the Effaclar Duo +. Even more disappointed because it’s been so highly raved about; is my skin so bad that nothing will work? Am I doomed to look like an acne victim forever, while everyone else’s skin becomes perfect?

Well, I’ve recently seen negative reviews start to creep up, slowly but surely, so I think the Effaclar Duo + isn’t as saintly as it has been made out to be. Don’t get me wrong, it obviously works for some people, but if you are going to get it, do not pin all your hopes on it just in case you end up being severely disappointed!

I’m not really sure what my next step to treating my acne scars is. I’ve seen a lot of hype about Heal Gel but I’m worried that the results will turn out the same for me as the Effaclar Duo +. I’m considering getting microdermabrasion, and if that gives any results use that over a period of months to gradually buff my skin into beautifulness. I am open to suggestions though!
