Cheap And Cheerful Makeup Remover

Before I became a #bblogger I don’t think I had heard of a hot cloth cleanser, or if I did my mind had subconscioustly filtered it out for lack of relevance to my life. The cocktail party effect, didn’t you know? But numerous twitter chats, alongside promoting the hatred for all makeup wipes ever, told me I needed one in my life. I hit that ‘running low’ level of makeup cleansers where you’re not actually running low but can kid yourself you are if it means you get to go shopping. I hit it at the same time for about four cleansers, but decided only a new one could do. I hate using the ends of products for some reason. I used to be like it with food before I became a student; I’d throw away the last of the bread of cheese so I could start a new pack. My parents must have hated me!

Anyway, I was off shopping and remembered I needed a hot cloth cleanser. More specifically, I remembered the Superdrug one was apparently good and affordable which is what my Scrooge ears like to hear. I picked it up for £2.99, although I think it’s normally £5.99. I was a little scared how to use it if I’m honest, because people had talked about hot cloth cleansers being notoriously difficult to remove, but I read the instructions and gave it a whirl and it was remarkably easy so I don’t know how anyone came to that conclusion!

According to the description the hot cloth cleanser helps to revive radiance and even out skin tone, provide exfoliation and soften and condition the skin.

To use, you basically rub some in on your face and then soak a flannel or muslin cloth in hot water and wipe it off. A tip for you all, do not use your best white flannel. All my flannels and muslin clothes have horrible black and orange stains across them, even after going through several hot washes! After one use, you get pretty much all your makeup off but I’ve been doing it twice to make sure I get rid of everything. It’s a lot more moisturising than using micellar waters, and it feels a lot more cleansing than some of the gentle cream and milk cleansers I’ve used. I think it is the perfect balance between nourishing and cleansing, as it does the job you want it to but actually cares for your skin.

I’ve been using this twice a day and whilst I can’t say I’ve noticed my skin being any brighter, it is definitely feeling more moisturised and nourished. Whilst you don’t feel any exfoliation going on at the time, I do believe it has exfoliating properties as my skin feels smooth despite only exfoliating it once a week recently.

I think if you’re looking for a gentle and nourishing cleanser for autumn and winter without costing a bomb, the hot cloth cleanser is probably a good place to start. It’s gentle and nourishing but still gives you that deep clean you’re looking for. The only thing you have to worry about is getting a supply of dark flannels!

What makeup remover have you been using lately? Let me know in the comments!
