Bare Nails & Essie Nail Varnish
After years of nail bitching (yuck), I finally managed to stop a few years ago and grow my nails really long, but I struggle with how brittle they often become, splitting and snapping like nobody’s business. I went to India for a month in summer and it was the best thing that ever happened to them: they grew really strong, really quick and for months afterwards were my babies which, no matter how much I painted, peeled and played with them, stayed strong and healthy.
Then along came winter, and the peeling and splitting happened all over again. New Years Eve, my thumb nail completely snapped off from where it was attached (I’d cut it when chopping peppers and it was bound to happen) so I filed all my nails down, buffed and prepped them and grew them out again, but they are still peeling and chipping constantly! Luckily I always carry a nail file with me and can minimise damage but it’s making me sad to see my long nails gradually get shorter.
So I have made the (super sad) decision to go nail varnish free for a month, although I will be wearing clear nail varnish as this helps prevent water absorbing into the nail and separating the nail layers, I won’t be using colours as this means I won’t be using nail varnish remover or picking off the nail varnish.
I’m also going to stop using nail hardener, as it actually weakens nails in the long run- like seriously what is even the point!? And will be moisturising and coconut oil-ing my hands and nails on a regular basis hopefully will have lovely healthy nails soon!
Once it is March, I am going to be straight on these Essie nail varnishes as I am dying to try them! The perfect summer nails with pastels and oranges!
