The Writing Process Tour Tag

I’ve seen tags floating around on blogs before, but I’ve never actually been tagged in one.
I quite like the idea of tags, it’s a really interesting way of finding out more about bloggers. I don’t think it’s something I’ll do very often though, unless I see one I can really relate to. Corinne tagged me to join in with The Writing Tour Process tag, and after a few days of forgetting I finally got around to it.

What am I working on?

God, loads haha! I like to write bits here and there, so my laptop is constantly filled with half written posts. I’ll start a new post before finishing an old one! I do have a few that are written up that I need to take photos for though, and I have a few photos that I need to write up posts for! I’m really unorganised, I’ll sit myself down one day and plough through five or six posts.

How does my work differ from others of its genre?

I don’t particularly think my blog is unique, probably what makes it stand out a little bit is that I don’t actually have a blog genre. Despite my blog name being Touchscreens & Beautyqueens, I don’t think beauty really dominates my posts. I write a few philosophical posts now and then, and I don’t think many blogs do that? Who knows.

Why do I write?

I started my blog for CV purposes, but actually once I started I remembered how much I love writing. I used to want to be an author, but I have the attention span of a gnat. Writing is a nice way to cool off from long days, and something to keep my busy when I’d be bored otherwise.

How does my writing process work?

I suppose the first step to writing a post is coming up with an idea. I tend to have random strokes of inspiration out and about, and I’ll mull it over in my head and play out where I could go with a post. Once I have an idea of what I’ll be saying, I’ll wing out a draft without much planning- I prefer to see where I go naturally with a post rather than planning it out.

Some days I’ll be able to write a post in 15 minutes, others it takes longer. If I’m really struggling to write a post, I’ll leave it and move on to something I’m more in the mood to write, or take photos instead. Once I’ve written a post, I’ll have a read through and make sure I’m happy with the content, and then I’ll go through and spell check.

Once I’m happy with everything, I’ll take and edit photos to go with the post and then upload everything to WordPress, sort out what category it’s in, fill in everything for my little SEO plugin, and schedule.

Last thoughts?

I’m quite an unorganised writer, really. I do things as and when I please, and my motivation tends to come in one big go, and then disappear for a week or so, give or take the odd hour when I like to whittle away posts. This suits me though, I’d much rather spend a whole day blogging and have evenings free to comment or Netflix than to spend a little bit each day writing a post up. Thank god for scheduling, eh?

Erm, I tag Hayley, Katie and Beth. But like, no pressure or anything.
