Put It On, Take It Off Again.

Isn’t it funny that we spend so much money on makeup, and then spend more money to buy stuff to remove makeup? I honestly find human behaviour so fascinating, sometimes it makes me really want to go back and do a PhD so I can learn about the Psychology I want to, not all the boring stuff I got taught in my degree.

Anyway, a tad off topic eh? In case you hadn’t guessed it,  today’s post is about makeup removers. Gold star if you did guess it (so gold stars for everyone I hope!). Since starting a new job where I actually see people on a daily basis, I’ve started wearing makeup more than my one day a week, meaning I have to actually pay more attention to makeup removers. Yawn. These are the ones I’m currently using.

Makeup Remover

Garnier Micellar Water £4.99

I bought this ages ago (as you can see!) and I used it as a makeup remover for a while but decided it wasn’t what I needed. It removes makeup perfectly, including stubborn eyeliner and mascara, but that’s all it does. It doesn’t add nutrients or moisture to my skin, it doesn’t tone, it just removes makeup. I know it doesn’t say it does anything else but I guess I just want more from my products.
Rather than ditch it completely, I use this in the morning to wipe away my sleep germs. I don’t have time for a water cleanse in the morning (I barely have time to eat breakfast and I refuse to get up earlier than 7) so a once over with micellar water and then toner before my serum and moisturiser helps to clean and prep my skin for the day.

Superdrug Radiant Hot Cloth Cleanser £2.99

I bought this in response to my lack of enthusiasm about Garnier Micellar Water. Everyone goes on about hot cloth cleansers being amazeballs so I decided to try it out for myself. I love how much more nourishing this is, but you do have to double cleanse to get rid of all makeup and it ruins every flannel or muslin cloth that I use.
Whilst I did like the hot cloth cleanser, I felt it was missing something as a makeup remover. I decided to move on to cleansing oils, and keep my hot cloth cleanser for makeup free days as a nourishing face wash.

The Body Shop Camomile Cleansing Oil £10

I bought this recently (here) and have been using it to take my makeup off at the end of the day. Despite being an oil, it doesn’t feel that oily, compared to oils like coconut oil and olive oil. You rub it on dry and then rinse it off. I really dislike the foam that occurs when you rinse it off, as it always works its way into my nose and mouth. Other than that, I really like it. It leaves my skin feeling clean and supple (such a strange adjective!) ready for my lotions and potions. I do find it takes two uses to take my eye makeup off, but I use it quite sparingly on my lashes as I’ve had oil in my eyes before and it is so painful, so I’m very cautious about it!

Although I don’t actually use all three of these to remove makeup, I do think all of them are good products. The Garnier Micellar Water is great for taking off makeup and removing dirt and grime from your skin, and would be a good bet for those who are laid back about skin care. The Superdrug Radiant Hot Cloth Cleanser removes makeup well and gives your skin some love, which is much needed during winter! And The Body Shop Camomile Cleansing Oil removes makeup and leaves your skin feeling soft and hydrated. Whether or not I’ve found The One when it comes to makeup removal, I don’t think I have, but I should probably use these up first I guess!
What do you use to take your makeup off?
