e.l.f Lip Exfoliator

e.l.f. is a brand that I’ve heard a lot about, but have never tried. I like to be able to look at products in person, so ordering beauty products online without ever experiencing the brand isn’t something I’ve been happy about! A while ago, both me and my friend needed a few things and e.l.f. were doing 50% off over £30 so we clubbed together to get a few things. Alongside a foundation brush and brush cleaner, I got the e.l.f. lip exfoliator.

I hate having dry lips, and although I love lip balm for keeping on top of moisturising, I lose them on a daily basis so need a more permanent solution for helping deal with cracked lips. I’ve used (and loved) Lush’s lip scrubs before but to be honest, I think the formula is quite messy and not exactly ideal for out and about so the idea of a more solid lip exfoliator appealed to me. At only £3.95, the e.l.f. lip exfoliator is a bit cheaper too.

The case for the exfoliator is similar to Sleek makeup, a smooth matte black case with the product name written on he side. It’s very elegant, but the real deal is what is inside. The exfoliator looks like a lipstick, but is actually a solid blend of sugar, vitamin E, shea butter, avocado, grape and jojoba oils. At first, there is kind of an oily/ waxy layer on top of the sugar beads so I was a bit disappointed thinking that it wasn’t very exfoliating, but once you get past this you can feel the sugar exfoliating your lips.

The lip exfoliator smells amazing. I can’t describe the smell but it’s a warm, whole kind of smell that makes me want to apply this constantly. The sugar means the surface is rough and can buff away dead skin, and the oils help to moisturise your lips. The only thing I don’t like is that it leaves sugar on your lips, meaning you can’t just apply and leave it during the day. I like to apply this after brushing my teeth, and then use a wet flannel to wipe off any excess sugar, before applying a moisturising lip balm. Doing this seems to prevent any dry, chapped skin appearing during the day, and makes a perfect base for lipstick!

I honestly love the e.l.f. lip exfoliator, it could not work any better to prep your pout for the day. My lips don’t tend to get dry in the summer so I won’t be using this daily, but I’ll definitely pull it out for when I want a smooth lipstick application!

How do you ensure soft lips all year round? I swear by lip balms normally but I always lose them!
