Make Up Academy Lipsticks / Review & Swatches

I’ve been trying to get hold of a Make Up Academy (MUA) red matte lipstick for ages but it is constantly sold out, unsurprising seeing as it retails for an amazing £1. I ended up getting a deep hot pink shimmery lipstick (shade 3) out of frustration and boredom. I also had a clear out of my old makeup bag and found a really weathered MUA lipstick in a shimmery pink (shade 6) around the same time, yay me!

I’ll start with my old lipstick. I don’t wear lipstick very often, and it’s so weathered that I only know it’s MUA because of the sticker! It’s quite a natural colour apart from the shimmer, and although it’s pretty pigmented it’s only a shade or two different to my natural pout. Useful for making your lips look lush without looking like you’re wearing lipstick, or adding a bit of colour when you’re eyes are the real show.

This lipstick feels incredibly moisturising. I always lip balm before lipsticking because I hate when it grabs onto dry skin, but this seriously is the world’s lightest lipstick. It feels like lip balm! I can imagine just completely forgetting I have this on as it’s just so silky and light, which is good because normally I get so fed up of worrying my lips are dry and my lipstick will be all clumpy that I take it off after about 20 minutes.

My new lipstick is hot pink and shimmery. It is insanely pigmented for something that costs £1! The colour really pops out, but isn’t too bright to wear. This lipstick is also pretty hydrating so you don’t have to worry about it drying your lips out. It lasted for a whole shift at work (roughly five hours of biting back torrents of abuse to customers and false smiles) although it did lose its pop appeal, my lips were still pinky pink.

Overall, I’m really impressed with these lipsticks. Shade 6 is so hydrating, easy to wear and natural so will fit into an everyday routine, and shade 3 is such a gorgeous hot pink that will easily add colour to a night out. The quality and pigment of the lipsticks are amazing considering how cheap they are. Now all I need to do is finally get hold of the red matte and I’ll be happy. Seriously MUA, get back in stock!
