TGI Friday / Blind Burger Date*

I managed to tweet myself a cheeky invite to a TGI Fridays blogger Burger Blind Date* on Thursday. The idea behind the burger blind date is that, rather than having a menu with ingredients on, you’re given a menu that conveys the ‘personality’ of the burger and you choose one that appeals to you.

Upon arrival, we were asked to wait at the bar where we got to pick a cocktail. I went for the Beach themed Paradise Punch in preparation for my holiday in two weeks. I obviously went ultimate as well, which takes your cocktail from glass sized to fishbowl sized for only £2. So worth it, the cup is AMAZING. If it hadn’t have weighed so much I would have been attempted to sneak one home!

The idea of the menu was really good. You had the choice of eight burgers, but rather than the ingredients and what the burger was in the description, there was a cheeky little personality insight into the burger. It was a blind date style theme, although we all had fun trying to guess what the different burgers were! I went for number 8, a burger with no description and apparently is so secret that it’s not even on the real menu. You have to ‘ask for Jack’ if you want it. Scott got number 3, a double meaty burger. They have some serious combinations of fries going on as well, I got some cheesy bacon chive topping on my chips, while the Scott went for a Jack Daniel’s mustard sauce topping.

When the burgers came out, I was starving. And also on my second cocktail, this time another beach themed June Bug which tasted exactly how a holiday would taste if it was a cocktail. We were asked to do our best burger faces for a photo (aka the photographer caught our attractive first bite of burger on camera!) before being left to delve in. Me and Scott went halves on each to try both.

My burger was beautifully cooked beef covered in crispy fried onion things, and with a sticky BBQ dip. It was absolutely beautiful. Scott’s burger was a double burger, with each burger itself being enormous, covered in crispy bacon. It was so nice but so huge! I was defeated pretty early on with that one. To be honest, the whole meal defeated me! The loaded chips were really nice as well, I didn’t think I’d like Scott’s as I’m not a fan of mustard but the mustard wasn’t all overpowering and horrible and I ended up making Scott swap chips half way through. Oops!

After the meal we got given framed photos of our burger faces, which was a nice novelty token, I look pretty good so it will definitely be on my mantelpiece next year…! Before we went, I got to make a cocktail in the bar. Clearly, the bar men knew I knew my stuff (ha!) so I was left in the bar alone under their watchful eye. I kinda made a bit of a mess but I made a really nice cocktail and had a bit of a laugh. Both the bar guys were proper cuties as well, very charming. All the staff were really nice if I’m honest, I never had to worry about my drinks being empty or anything.

I had a really good time. I love TGI Fridays in general, I’ve never really experienced a bad meal there. The price is a bit out of my student price range, but it’s always pulled out when parents are down. I really love the whole blind date menu concept as well. How often is it you’re stuck looking at a menu with too many options? This way, you get to look at the aspects you really fancy, like cheesy or spicy or meaty, rather than focusing on the ingredients. From what I saw and tasted, you’re not going to be disappointed with any of the options! I’d also really recommend TGI Fridays for cocktails, the ultimate cocktail cups are huge so you really get your value for £7.99. It is pretty bloating drinking cocktails with such huge meals though, so don’t dress in anything that might cling to your food baby!
