Sample Sunday #13

Has anyone else found this week exhausting? I think it’s the darker mornings making it hard to get up, which may be better or worse now the clocks have changed. I don’t really know, I don’t understand the clocks changing to be honest. I can never get my head around whether I get more or less sleep!

This weeks sample is Benefit, and comes in the form of their refining polish. I love a good face scrub if I’m honest, but I actually don’t use them very often. Maybe once or twice a week. I used to use them daily when I was younger but apparently it can be aggravating on your skin, so I stick to my hot cloth cleanser which is apparently exfoliating. I miss having the beads of a real scrub though!

The refining polish has the perfect scrub consistency; it’s gritty, with small beads, but it doesn’t feel painful or harsh when you’re scrubbing away. Unlike some exfoliants, which dissolve with use, these beads stay firm so you can scrub for as long as you like. They also wash off with a flannel and a splash of water easily, which is perfect as I hate when you wash your face and then go to put moisturiser on and realise there is still some gritty beads on your face.

Once I’d scrubbed and rinsed my face, I immediately noticed my skin felt smoother, especially in my cheeks where they dry out from my Mario Badescu mask (cons of amazing acne masks, really drying properties!). The polish had essentially scrubbed away the tightness from being dry, which is amazing. I also felt like my skin looked brighter and clearer, although how much of that is because I expected my skin to look brighter? Either way, I was definitely impressed by the scrub.

The only downside I’d say is that, for about 10 minutes after using, the area under my eye was a bit sore so I think the scrub was a bit harsh for the more sensitive areas of my face. It did go with a good moisturise, and it wasn’t painful, but I’d suggest steering clear of this if you have sensitive skin.

I didn’t think I’d really like Benefit skin care products, but this has surprised me. You can get it for £18.50 (here) which isn’t the cheapest of scrubs but you only use a tiny bit once or twice a week so the bottle should last a long time. I do actually want to get this as I’ve found the dryness my cheeks can get after my mask to be really annoying, so I’m going to put this on my Christmas wish list, as let’s face it, I am too poor to buy it for myself right now.
