This is just a quick recipe for those who haven’t discovered how to make the perfect, healthy, homemade chip.
Ingredients
Potatoes (I used red potatoes, but maris pipers and mabel potatoes are also really nice)
Salt
Pepper
Oil* I use frylite
Optional
Cayenne pepper
Paprika
Garlic salt
Put a pan of lightly salted water on to boil, preheat your oven to 240 and then cut your chips (I have a chip cutter!). I made french fries here but also use this method to make wedges. Put the chips into boil for 8-10 minutes, then drain and batter around to make the edges fluffy before leaving to steam dry. Boiling the chips first decreases cooking time, leaving to steam gets rid of any excess water and prevents soggy chips, and fluffing up the chips gives a greater surface area, meaning there is more surface to absorb oil ad crisp up beautifully.
Once the chips are steamed out (about 5 minutes), oil up an oven tray- I find glass works best as the chips don’t stick! Pop in your chips, sprinkle on some salt and pepper (and optional spices if you want, goes amazingly with wedges) and put in the oven for 35-45 minutes (45-55 for wedges), making sure you turn ever 10-15 minutes.
Voila! Perfect crispy chips that taste amazing and aren’t bad on your waistline. If you are on slimming world, using frylite puts these at zero syns
